BRADFORD UNIVERSITY - SATURDAY, 30th OCTOBER
Click here to see the provisional programme with details of the keynote speakers
Attendance at the Seminar goes on increasing and the lecture theatre last year was very full and hot. For the 2010 Seminar, we have booked the University's Great Hall, which will give us all much more space and, being much higher, should not become too hot.
Registration and tea/coffee breaks will again be in the Atrium, and a hot lunch will be served in the dining area on the mezzanine floor, close to the lecture theatre. Lunch will be in a single sitting and service will be divided between the refectory and the Small Hall, both of which are very close to the Great Hall.
Class VIII and the Host Area Committee have tried to respond to suggestions from the feedback last year. There will be presentations by each member of Class VIII, in many cases describing their activities while on Applied Field Experience this summer. The members of Class IX will be introduced and asked to briefly explain the background to their Fellowship awards. There will be presentations in the afternoon from our keynote speakers, Professor Nana Poku, and Class II (2003-2005) Rotary World Peace Fellow, Ryan Gawn,.
Registration and coffee will be from 8.30 am, with the Programme beginning at 9.15 am. Lunch will be between 12.15 pm and 1.30 pm, and the Conference will close at 4.15 pm when tea will be available, with an opportunity to have individual discussions with the Fellows.
There will again be a pre-Seminar, 'Meet The Fellows' Dinner at 7.30 for 8.00 pm on the evening before, i.e. Friday, 29th October. This will be held at the Great Victoria Hotel and the speakers will be the Vice-Chancellor of Bradford University, Professor Mark Cleary, and another previous Peace Fellow, Christy Bischoff, who was a member of Class IV at Bradford (2005-2007).
Feedback on the dinner last year asked for a table-plan, so we have this year invited you to say whether you are willing for us to decide where you sit, or whether you would prefer to sit with others from your club or district, or to specify an individual you would like to sit with. We cannot promise to satisfy everyone, but we will try; in return, however, we ask you to give us the time to do the planning: please book before the middle of October. The last days leading up to the Seminar are hectic already and it will be a challenge to fit in the creation of a table-plan.
If we are doing a table-plan, then we are also able to offer (limited) menu choices. There are two options for each course; please indicate your menu choices on the booking form, and we will show them on your place-card. Please be warned that bookings which do not specify menu choices will be assumed to be for the first choice shown for each course. Also please be warned that we will not be able to take account of seating preferences for bookings received after 15th October.
The Conference Hotel is The Great Victoria, Bridge Street, Bradford, BD1 1JX. Tel: 01274 728706. The Great Victoria was winner of the Best Small Venue in Yorkshire 2008, Business Insider Award. They are offering a special rate for Seminar attendees at £69 Bed and Breakfast for a double room and £65 Bed and Breakfast for a single (unchanged from last year). For details of the hotel go to http://www.tomahawkhotels.co.uk. The Great Victoria Hotel will accept room bookings, now. Remember to ask for the specially negotiated room rate.
Parking is available at the hotel and on the University Campus for the Conference itself.
Please note that hotel bookings must be made direct. The Conference organisers are only involved with the event itself and the Meet The Fellows Dinner on the evening before.
