Several of the past and present Peace Fellows keep blogs. We will put links to any that we know about, on Fellows' individual web pages. Please let us know of any we have missed. Thank you.
MARIA VICTORIA GABIOUD
ARGENTINA
Sponsored by: Rotary Club of Boulogne Sur Mer, District 4825, Argentina
Country of Citizenship: ARGENTINA
Language proficiency : Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Italian
Background : I’m 27 years old and live in Buenos Aires, for 10 years. I am from a city called Concordia, next to the frontier with Uruguay. As most of the young people in Argentina from the “rest” of the country, when I finished secondary school I came to study in Buenos Aires. My parents and grandmothers still live there, so I go every month to visit them. I’ve one brother and sister living here in Buenos Aires, and one brother living in Puerto Madryn (Patagonia).
I have a Degree and Master in International Affairs, I’ve studied in a private University (Universidad de Belgrano) and done one year at the Université de Lausanne, in Switzerland. Living one year abroad it was an excellent opportunity to live in a different country and culture, well for me it was not so different because my family has Swiss origins, but it was my first experience abroad.
Actually, I work in a company doing financial translations and researches, in French, Portuguese, Spanish and English. The environment is multicultural, as the company works with a lot of languages in its office in Buenos Aires.
I‘ve applied for the MA in Peace Studies because I want to focus my career in the social sector and especially in the humanitarian field. Nowadays I’ve experience in various sectors, and I can say I know what I do prefer.
When I first read about this fellowship I thought it was right for me. I did not know so much about the University and the city, but then when I read about them I knew it was a very nice place to study and live.
In my free time I like to do sports, tennis is my favorite, read, watch movies and spare time with my friends. I like to meet foreign people, now Buenos Aires is a cosmopolitan city, I know that in Bradford would be similar too as the fellows come from everywhere.
